The most prominent landmark of Rio is ‘Christ the Redeemer’ . This colossal statue of Jesus Christ at the summit of Mount Corcovado was completed in 1931 and stands 30 metres tall with its horizontally outstretched arms spanning 28 metres. The statue is made of reinforced concrete and is covered with thousands of triangular soapstone tiles. The statue is the largest Art Deco style sculpture in the world and is one of the new 7 wonders of the world.
